Right, this article is about the ABE HOTEL, but I will definitely write about this delicious country too. This was my first tasty trip — the CZECH REPUBLIC!
Arriving in and departing from the Czech Republic is no different from Turkey, Thailand, Georgia and other countries, so I won’t dwell on it. We landed, went through border control, collected our luggage, and took the transfer to the ABE HOTEL. The flight back was the same in reverse.
Check-in. Before the trip to the Czech Republic, I asked about early check-in on tophotels, since we were due to arrive at the hotel before 11 a.m. local time. The hotel representative, Tetiana Lada, replied that check-in was officially at 14:00, but if the room was ready we would be checked in straight away. At reception we were told that the room was ready but that, unfortunately, they could only check us in at 14:00, as those were the hotel rules. We weren’t too upset: we left our suitcases and went off to get to know the wonderful city of Prague. (After returning to Ukraine we wrote a review, and the same representative promised us that this would not happen again.) Jumping ahead a little, check-out is not at 12:00, as is the international standard, but at 10:00. So right after breakfast it’s suitcase, reception, home.
We were given room 204 on the second floor of the ABE HOTEL. Contrary to other comments about this hotel, we got a really rather large room. A small hallway, a large bedroom, an anteroom with drawers and a sink in front of the bathroom, and the bathroom itself. The room had a double bed, a sofa, a table with 2 armchairs, a desk with a chair and a wardrobe. The room was quiet and cosy; the carpet on the floor was a bit dirty. The shampoo/shower gel, just like in Greece, was in a dispenser screwed to the bathroom wall. Wi-Fi worked on the hotel premises. The safe was at reception for an extra fee.
Service at the ABE HOTEL. I don’t even know where to start here. Cleaning of the room was essentially non-existent (after our review, the hotel representative told us everything had been fixed). When they did clean the room, they made the bed and took out the rubbish — but not all of it. Hair in the bathroom, dust and rubbish, such as beer bottles, stayed in the room until the end of our stay. At reception everyone always smiled and tried to help with any question; they found us a tour operator who arranged excursions for us. Once we had a very ambiguous and confrontational situation. At 9 p.m. local time a man came into our room without knocking, opening it with his own key card, said “Pardon” and left. As reception explained, the guys had come to install new internet. BUT WHY AT SUCH A TIME AND WITHOUT EVEN KNOCKING!!!???!!! I was on holiday with my wife, and it’s rather awkward when someone walks into your room without knocking.
Breakfasts were ordinary. Two kinds of smoked sausage, two kinds of ham, cabbage (instead of salad), some sauces (I didn’t try them), bread and pastries, including sweet ones, butter, sometimes apples, porridge, and one dish changed every day: “boiled frankfurters / fried sausages / boiled eggs”. All in all, very good indeed for 3 stars.
The location of the ABE HOTEL is good, not far from the metro and stops for other public transport. It’s a 10–15 minute walk to the museum on Wenceslas Square. Nearby there are various cafés/restaurants and grocery shops. Most excursions start from Wenceslas Square. The hotel is in the Prague 3 district; the number indicates the distance from the city centre.
