In this article we’ll look at Spanish treats and the places where we liked the food.
You can read about breakfasts at the hotel in our article about the hotel. In short, the breakfasts impressed me: the hotel was 3-star, and having already been to other European countries, I found the breakfasts here really quite good.
Having lunch here was a bit tricky because of the siesta. In one restaurant, at 3 p.m. local time, they looked at us as if we were aliens and told us the chef wasn’t working right now, so choose from the snacks and drinks. Luckily, Spanish treats — or rather the snacks — are really quite good and filling. You can easily order a platter of assorted sausages, a platter of assorted tapas with fish, a plate of revuelto with various fillings, bruschettas, or seafood tapas. In general, you won’t go hungry here. Some cafés and restaurants have their own gimmicks: for example, they serve 2-litre cocktails or 2-litre glasses of beer, and in one café, Voramar Beach Bar, every guest was given a Hawaiian flower necklace.
We had dinner in various cafés and small restaurants. For dinner we had paella, seafood, gazpacho, salads, burgers and other treats. We liked the seaside restaurant 12 lounge restaurant: everything was good quality, tasty and quick. We tried tapas at Bodega Sa Xarxa; you can see the detailed menu on their website. In short, inexpensive and very tasty.
You can also make “Gazpacho” using our recipe, or find other recipes on our other website.
On excursions, food is mostly not included in the price. We also travelled around the country on our own in a rented car, but I’ll tell you about that in another article. In Barcelona, near La Sagrada Família, we went into a McDonald’s; to be honest, the prices there bite, the taste is not much different from ours, and the menu has a few burgers we don’t have. It’s actually our tradition to visit a McDonald’s in every country and compare it with ours. We also visited the French coast, where we tried a French croissant, coffee, oysters and mussels, and bought some tinned fish — honestly, not really to my taste…
And of course you can stock up at the supermarkets. For most of the holiday we thought there were only 2 large supermarkets, and they were far from our hotel (on the roads out of town), but while walking around the streets we accidentally found a supermarket right next to the hotel: just 1 block away from us was Novavenda.
Also, if you go down to the beach in Lloret de Mar, there are cafés and small restaurants along the long promenade; we chose places that smelled delicious and had pleasant music, and so far that has never let us down.
